Jumpstart SCIENCE

Jumpstart ENGLISH

Jumpstart TECHNOLOGY

These sessions are designed to review professor-identified key concepts for MAT 1033, MAC 1105 or STA 2023 as well as study skills and tips for success specific to the course.

This session will benefit students planning to take a science course in the fall. Topics include how to write a science lab report, a review of the metric system, introduction to lab equipment, study techniques and time management.

This session will provide students with the tools necessary to succeed in ENC 1101.  Students will review basic essay structure, MLA & APA formats, research, citations, and more.

This session will benefit any student taking any classes this fall.  Students will learn how to use D2L (our course management system), navigate the NFCC InfoNetwork, utilize GoMail, create a PowerPoint, and more.

How much does it cost?

It’s FREE for NFCC students!

  1. If I am not planning to take ENC 1101, MAT 1033, MAC 1105, STA 2023, or any science classes in the fall, may I still attend Jumpstart sessions?  Yes, as long as you are a registered NFCC student for the fall semester.

  2. Will I receive college credit for attending one or more Jumpstart sessions?  No.  Jumpstart sessions are non-credit sessions designed to get students ready for college credit courses in the fall.

  3. How do I register for Jumpstart sessions? Registration opens on July 1.  Go to http://www.nfcc.edu/jumpstart and click on Register Now.  A registration link will be available.  OR… email Elizabeth Gonzales and she will send you an electronic form for registration.  Please register by Thursday, July 31, 2019.

Elizabeth Gonzales, Academic Success Center Coordinatorgonzalese@nfcc.edu

  4. Do I have to register for all Jumpstart sessions?  No.  Only register for sessions you would like to attend. Sessions have been scheduled at various times to try to accommodate students’ needs as best as possible.  For example, a student may choose to attend the technology session on Monday and the math session on Thursday.  All sessions are free; students may attend one or all of the sessions scheduled.

  5. May I attend both scheduled sessions for English/Math/Science/Technology?  Two sessions for each of the four subject areas have been scheduled to accommodate students’ needs.  A student who chooses to attend Monday’s science session does not need to attend Tuesday’s science session.  Tuesday’s sessions are a repeat of Monday’s sessions (and Thursday’s sessions are a repeat of Wednesday’s sessions); they are just offered at different times.

  6. Who will be leading the sessions?  NFCC instructors and learning specialists will lead/facilitate the Jumpstart sessions.

  7. What supplies do I need?  Paper and pen/pencil; standard calculator (for the math session)

  8. Who should I contact for more information?
