CLAST Test for Graduating Community College Students
The College Level Academic Skills Test is required of community college students who are completing Associate in Arts Degree programs. Students may be exempted from the Essay, English Language Skills and/or the Reading subtest of CLAST based on the grade point average in ENC 1101 and ENC 1102. Students may be exempted from the Computations (Mathematics) subtest of CLAST based on the grade point average in six (6) semester hours of college-level mathematics courses excluding MAT 1033, Intermediate Algebra. Students may be exempt from CLAST subtests based on scores on the Enhanced ACT and the SAT-I.

Students may get information about the CLAST from the Enrollment Services Office by calling 850/973-1605 (Building #3). Study Guides are available in the NFCC Library as well as in the College Bookstore.

Registering for the CLAST Test
Students are eligible to register for the CLAST at NFCC provided the following criteria have been met:

1. At least 18 semester hours of college-level course work must have been completed satisfactorily.
2. The CLAST-related general education requirements must have been completed successfully with a grade of “C” or better. (For the communications subtests: ENC 1101 and ENC 1102; for the math or computations subtest: three semester hours from MGF 1106 or higher mathematics courses.)

Students have the option of taking the complete CLAST or splitting the test into two separate sessions: one for the communications portion (Essay, English Language Skills, and Reading) and one for the mathematics portion.

Exemptions from Subtests of the CLAST
Any student fulfilling the requirements identified in Section 240.107(9)(c) Florida Statutes is exempt from the communications and/or the mathematics sections of the CLAST. The student must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above in postsecondary-level course work identified by the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission.

Waivers from Subtests of the CLAST
Section 240.107(5) Florida Statutes, and State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.311(6), FAC, provide special consideration for students who have documented specific learning disabilities such that they cannot complete one or more CLAST subtests.

Section 240.107(6) Florida Statutes and State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.0311(7-13) permit an institutional president, under certain conditions, to grant a waiver from one or more of the CLAST subtests to students who repeatedly fail the subtest(s) for which a waiver is requested.

Students who have taken any of the four (4) subtests at least four (4) times and have not earned a passing score on the subtest but have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all college courses in the subtest area and met the requirements defined in Rule 6A-10.030, FAC, may appeal to the institutional CLAST Waiver Committee for a waiver from that subtest.

Special Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
NFCC is an accessible campus. If you have a disability and need an accommodation for this test, please set up an appointment with the Office for Student Disability Services. The request must be made no later than the last date to register for the CLAST. All requests must be accompanied with appropriate documentation. Contact Student Disability Services at 850-973-9484 (V) or 850-973-1611 (TTY) or by email Student Disability Services.
