Student Support Services Program Awards over $12,000 in Grant Aid On December 7, 2007, the NFCC Student Support Services (SSS) Program announced the distribution of over $12,000 in supplemental grant aid to active SSS participants. Supplemental grant aid is financial aid money awarded to eligible SSS students who participate in required SSS activities such as academic advising, workshops, attendance at cultural or community events and who also maintain a 2.0 grade point average. The awards are given in addition to Pell grants and other forms of financial aid. Students submit essays outlining their academic goals, and how they have spent previous awards if applicable. More than thirty students received grants of $400 each this semester.
The SSS program serves 200 first-generation in college, low income and disabled students each year on NFCC’s campus. The program provides a variety of support services designed to retain at-risk students in college, and assist them in graduating and transferring to a four-year university. The focus of the program is teaching skills that encourage independence and responsibility along with assistance in making sound academic and career choices.
The SSS program is open to students who meet eligibility criteria. Supplemental grant aid is awarded each semester. Anyone interested in applying to the SSS program should contact the program at ssservices@nfcc.edu or stop by the Student Success Lab on the NFCC campus, building 6.
