North Florida Community College offers students and the community several opportunities to enrich musical talents including the NFCC Jazz Ensemble, NFCC Sentinel Singers, NFCC Community Choir and private instruction courses in piano, guitar or voice (see more information below). Students may participate in one or more performing ensembles with permission of the director, Dr. Rebecca Burkart. Scholarships are available for qualifying students. Jazz Ensemble - 2 credit hours The Jazz Ensemble is made up of musicians who love to play jazz and pop standards. The Jazz Ensemble plays music from the Big Band era to today’s hits. Improvisation is encouraged and ample time is given to help individuals achieve their full potential. The Jazz Ensemble performs throughout the year for both fellow students and the community. This group is both an activity and a college course during the Fall and Spring Terms. |

Sentinel Singers - 2 credit hours The Sentinel Singers is a select vocal group, which performs a variety of music on campus, at high schools and at community events. The group enjoys singing today’s hits as well as music from the past. The emphasis is on having fun while learning how to blend voices, read music, and perform choreography. This group is both an activity and a college course during the Fall and Spring Terms. |

Community Choir - Community Service The Community Chorus is comprised of members of all ages throughout the six county area. The group performs classical choral selections at a variety of community events. The Communtiy Choir is open to all campus and community members. |

Private Instruction - 1 credit hour Students can select piano, guitar or voice to learn basic techniques. Piano and guitar study emphasizes the ability to play chords to accompany simple songs. Voice students learn poise, proper diction, and proper breathing techniques. All private students perform for each other in a small recital at the end of each term. |
