North Florida Community College honored its Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board and Senators for outstanding service and leadership on Oct. 18 during the 2012 SGA Inauguration of Officers ceremony in the NFCC Student Center. Eleven student leaders were recognized for their role in the organization and presented ceremonial pins by NFCC President John Grosskopf. Willy Gamalero, Vice President and Investment Officer at Madison County Community Bank and an alumnus of NFCC, was the guest speaker.
“What you do today matters tremendously for the future,” said Gamalero. “The more you build others up, the more you will be a good leader.”
Gamalero told the SGA members that the attributes of a good leader were to be unselfish, to encourage others and to be positive. He encouraged them to continue learning throughout life and wished them luck in their future endeavors. SGA President Kent Jones thanked Gamalero for speaking at the event and commended his fellow SGA leaders on their service to NFCC – “I’m excited about this year,” said Jones. “You are a great group and you all do an excellent job. I appreciate you.”
Members of the SGA Executive Board are President Kent Jones of Perry, President Elect Alana Ellison of Madison, Vice President for Promotions Daniel Perez of Perry, Vice President for Events Sara Kolvinsky of Branford, Secretary Beatriz Sadler of Perry, Treasurer Shontea Lewis of Madison, and Senator of Civic Engagement Robert Noah-Michael Moral of Lee. SGA Senators are Tammy Leslein of Madison, Zacery Boatman of Madison, Tyler Coarsey of Lee, and Thuy Tran of Live Oak.
During the inauguration, SGA President Elect Alana Ellison read the SGA Mission – Members of the Student Government Association are connected through their vision to “protect, serve, and unite to enhance the Sentinel experience.” It is the mission of SGA to revive the Sentinel experience of every student at NFCC through civic engagement and awareness, service, and campus activities.
