Leadership Awards

North Florida Community College recognized students from various clubs and organizations for outstanding student achievement and leadership outside of the classroom during the college’s 2014 Student Leadership Awards Ceremony held in April. Students were honored based on their participation and leadership within NFCC clubs and organizations for the 2013-2014 academic year. Awards for Member of the Year, Unsung Hero, Outstanding Community Service by an Organization, Organization Advisor of the Year and All-Florida Academic Team were given.

NFCC Save Our Animal Resources (S.O.A.R.) ecology club was recognized as the Outstanding Community Service Organization. Mary Anne Wheeler, Dean of Enrollment Services at NFCC, applauded S.O.A.R. for a long-standing tradition of outstanding service to the NFCC campus and local community. More specifically the club was recognized for its annual “capture, tag and release” of Monarch butterflies at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to help track migration patterns of these amazing insects. NFCC student Samantha Crumly was named S.O.A.R.’s Member of the Year, receiving praise from S.O.A.R. advisor Bonnie Littlefield for her creativity and dedication, and was honored with the college’s Unsung Hero Award for her tireless work behind the scenes.

Denise Bell, NFCC Student Services Coordinator and Student Government Association Advisor, was honored as the Organization Advisor of the Year. SGA officers Julia Morgan, Jonathan Bolick and Jonathan Cooks presented Bell with her award and described Bell as “a caring individual who has gone above and beyond her duties as an advisor.” The students thanked Bell for the tremendous amount of work and dedication she has given to help students succeed and for her outstanding generosity.

NFCC student Rene Perez was named Member of the Year for both the NFCC Astronomy Club and the new NFCC Gaming and Technology Club. Perez was instrumental in forming the Gaming and Technology Club and was applauded for his leadership in both student organizations.

NFCC student Thuy Tran received the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Member of the Year Award and was also honored for being a member of the All-Florida Academic Team. She was applauded for outstanding academic achievement, leadership and community service.

NFCC student Bethany Dawkins received the Sentinel Service Corp Member of the Year Award. As a high school dual enrollment student, Dawkins was recognized for having perfect attendance at the Sentinel Service Corp meetings and for contributing over 50 volunteer hours this past semester. According the Kim Halfhill, NFCC Director of Recruitment and Student Development, NFCC Sentinel Service Corp members collectively has completed over 225 hours of service to the NFCC campus and community this semester alone.

NFCC student Johnathan Cooks received the Student Government Association (SGA) Member of the Year Award. Cooks was voted as the Member of the Year by his fellow SGA members for going above and beyond and bringing members together for a variety of worthy causes.

NFCC student Mandy Holley received the Sentinel Upstage Players Member of the Year Award. Holley was recognized for portraying a variety of roles in NFCC community theatre productions – Alice in “Alice @ Wonderland”, Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”, Annabelle in “The Little Mermaid” and Hayden in “Good People” – and for making her characters “truly memorable.
