Register by June 30 for Health Scholars 2014; Camp is July 7-10
North Florida Community College’s Allied Health department is pleased to announce that its annual Health Scholars camp is expanding to Suwannee County this summer. The Suwannee-Hamilton Technical Center will host a Health Scholars 2014 camp in Live Oak July 7-10 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; concurrent with the NFCC Health Scholars Camp being held in Madison. Open to 6th-9th grade students, the four-day camp explores healthcare topics and careers – nursing, science, fitness and nutrition – in engaging, fun and educational ways. Campers will enjoy games, team building exercises, skills training with human patient simulators, guest speakers and field trips to local healthcare facilities. Camp leaders will provide basic first aid skills and certification for first aid training to participants and share information on how to plan for a chosen career in health care, including what classes to take in high school and college.
The camp, sponsored by Big Bend AHEC, North Florida Rural Healthcare Workforce Development Network, NFCC and Suwannee-Hamilton Technical Center, is a great camp for young students interested in healthcare as a possible career or students who simply want to have fun while learning valuable information this summer. Cost to attend is $50 per student. This fee includes meals, snacks and consumables utilized in the skills lab. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to the first 20 students who pre-register for each location. Registration closes Monday, June 30.
