The North Florida Community College Artist Series has some exciting shows on the way. October welcomes Dance Alive National Ballet back to the Van H. Priest Auditorium stage for a performance of PHANTOM: A Tale of Obsession on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. PHANTOM, an original production created by DANB’s Kim Tuttle and based on the Gaston Leroux novel “The Phantom of the Opera”, tells a story of love and obsession, good versus evil, and a classic love triangle through dance. Journey through an opulent opera house, virginal boudoir and darkly chilling cemetery, and be drawn into the torn life of the Phantom. DANB has graced the NFCC stage with past performances of The Nutcracker, America Dances, Robin Hood and Dracula.
November is also sure to be a hit with TITANIC: The Musical on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. On the 100th anniversary of its tragic journey, TITANIC: The Musical recounts the dreams, hopes and aspirations of those aboard the fateful ship. Winner of Five 1997 Tony Awards® (including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score), TITANIC: The Musical is the story of the launching, the maiden voyage, the collision with the iceberg, and the sinking played out against the background of the rigid class-distinctions of the Edwardian Age. Featuring a cast of 26, this contemporary musical presents the story of one of America’s greatest tragedies in a powerfully moving production.
In December the Golden Dragon Acrobats return by popular demand for a performance on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The Golden Dragon Acrobats combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. The group is recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. The company “delivers beautifully choreographed routines showcasing their amazing skill and physicality, accompanied by a musical score of traditional Chinese music filtered through a New Age sensibility” - The New York Post. The Golden Dragon Acrobats last performed at NFCC in January 2011 to a sold out crowd.
