- The computers in the library are available to NFCC students, faculty and staff and community patrons. The primary purpose of these computers is for accessing electronic resources for information and research. Priority is given to users who are using the computers for classroom assignments and research. Community patrons and students who are not using the computers for school use may be asked to relinquish the computer.
- The Children’s Internet Protection Act of 2000 requires libraries to install filtering software if computers are available to children. Since computers in the NFCC library do not have filtering software, children under 18 years of age are not legally allowed to use the computers.
- Only college-installed software is permitted on computers. Users will not be permitted to install software or run their own software from diskette or CD.
- College computing resources may not be used for personal financial gain or commercial purposes.
- Copying software is a violation of the federal Copyright Act of 1976 as amended (Title 17) U.S. Code.
- Individuals must share responsibility for protecting college computers by checking their diskettes for viruses.
- Unauthorized, fraudulent, or intentional destructive use of computing resources are punishable under Chapter 815, Florida Statutes Computer Crimes Act, http://www.flsenate.gov/statutes/index and Title 18, United States Code, Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986.
- College computers and network systems are not to be used for the viewing, downloading, transmitting, or printing of obscene, pornographic, libelous, or defamatory materials. “Chat Rooms” participation associated with obscene, pornographic, libelous, and defamatory subject matter is prohibited. (NFCC Student Code of Conduct 2003-2004, p. 7)
- Violations of the above policies may result in immediate and permanent loss of access privileges.
