Graduation Application Instructions

Lists all the dates and details about graduation.  Don’t miss these Graduation Instructions! Highlights are:

  • Indicate whether or not you will participate in the ceremony.
  • Indicate whether or not you want your name published in the program which includes publishing in the newspaper.
  • Be sure the application name is the name you want on your diploma!
  • If you are using an alternate address and DO NOT want your permanent address changed, please note that on the application.

Graduation Day Checklist

The Graduation Checklist helps you remember what to do the day of the ceremony.  Great for students and family or friends! Print one!

Diplomas

Diplomas are printed after all requirements for a term have been completed.  The address on your Graduation Application will be used.  Be sure it is accurate!  Diplomas are mailed approximately 2-3 weeks after each graduation – Spring or Fall.

Certificates

Certificates are printed after all requirements for your program have been completed.  The address on your Graduation Application will be used.  Be sure it is accurate!  Certificates are mailed approximately 2 -3 weeks after program completion.

Holds

Be Wise!  Check for any obligations you might have on campus, such as library fines, tickets you might have received on campus and any other fees you might owe.  Check with Mrs.  Kathy Hidy for any additional holds you may have.  You will not receive your transcript or diploma until all holds are resolved.

Photographs

Graduation photographs will be taken the night of the ceremony.  The photographer will contact graduates with special photo packages that can be purchased.

Graduating with Academic Honors

Academic Honors are based on GPA and are described in the college catalog under the Regulations section.  Honor cords are given to students based on all of your completed terms at NFCC.

Graduation Protocol

The Commencement Ceremony is a most dignified event.  Decorum and courtesy are very important for graduates and their guests.

All graduates and members of the general audience should stand and remove hats following the lead of the stage guests.

No air horns, balloons, bubbles, beach balls or similar items are allowed in the ceremony.  The use of noisemakers may be intended to show one person’s pride in a graduate, but it can also ruin the chance for another family to hear the name of their graduate announced.

Caps & Gowns

Caps and Gowns are ordered from Mrs.  Kathy Hidy.  You must pay for them at the time of order.   Please check with Mrs. Hidy on the order deadline.

Tassels

Tassels should be worn on the RIGHT side.  During the ceremony when you have officially been conferred your degree, you will be directed to move your tassel from the right to the left.

Invitations and Guest Limits

Because of limited seating, NFCC will provide each graduate who walks in the Ceremony Admission Tickets.  Each graduation participate will receive the same number of admission tickets.  (It is greatly appreciated if a graduate does not plan on using all of their admission tickets that they turn those that will not be used back in to Mrs. Hidy).

Phi Theta Kappa Strolling and Nurse’s Pinning

These ceremonies are separate from Graduation.  Contact the PTK sponsor or the nursing program director for details. PTK regalia may be worn at graduation; however that is ordered by the student.  Please visit the PTK website for ordering information.

What to Wear

Graduates must be attired in full academic regalia to participate in the ceremony.
Female graduates – Dark clothing and shoes; skin tone hose; no beach-type thongs/sandals or shorts
Male graduates – White shirts; dark ties; dark trousers; no beach-type thongs/sandals or shorts
Guest – Business casual

Rehearsal

Graduation rehearsal is held on an afternoon the week before Commencement.  Participating graduates will be notified of the time and date of the practice as soon as that information is available.  Caps and gowns will be issued to the graduates immediately after the practice.

Handicapped Access

The ushers will direct you to handicapped seating.  One guest may sit with the handicapped guest and in some instances, more may be seated near.  Seating with the handicapped guest is subject to availability and demand on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Reception

There will be a short reception following the ceremony where punch and cookies will be served.

Ceremony Participation Deadline

If you choose to participate in the ceremony you must have met the following requirements by the Graduation Application deadline:

  • Contacted Mrs.  Kathy Hidy, Graduation Specialist.
  • Ordered and paid for your cap and gown.
You cannot just attend the ceremony and walk.
