2006 Outstanding Alumni

  • Larry Alderman: Graduate of NFJC, 1967. Educator since 1969, currently principal at Lee Elementary School, Lee, Fla. He and wife Sheryl reside in Madison, Fla.

  • Lamar Albritton: Graduate of NFJC, 1975. Pastor of Lake Gibson United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. He and his wife, the former Vivian P. Fulford, whom he met at NFJC, reside in Lakeland, Fla.

  • Derek Barrs: Graduate of NFCC, 1998. He is currently Law Enforcement Lieutenant with the Florida Department of Transportation. He is married to the former Robin Gaylard and they reside in Madison, Fla.

  • Bill Brown: Graduated from NFJC in 1970. Owner of Ken’s Bar B Que restaurant, a Madison landmark, since 1986. Married to the former Cynthia Scanlon, the Browns reside in Madison, Fla.

  • Bobby Joe Buchanan: NFJC graduate, 1964. Retired in 2004 after 30 years as teacher and administrator at North Florida Community College. He is married to Mary Wells Buchanan, also a NFJC graduate. They reside in Madison, Fla.

  • Dan Buchanan: Graduated from NFJC in 1970. Has been with the Florida Farm Bureau Federation for over 32 years as a District field agent. His wife, Joyce, and their two children, also graduated from NFJC. The Buchanans reside in Pinetta, Fla.

  • Elmer Coker: NFJC graduate, 1960. First student government president at NFJC. Former Taylor County High School coach who retired in 1992. Married to the former Pat Kirkland, now residing in Perry, Fla.

  • George Collins: NFJC grad, AA 1963, Owner of Collins Consulting Company, Fernandina Beach, Fla. He and his wife, the former Charlotte Ann Langford of Perry, Fla., reside in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

  • Brad Cooley, Jr.: Studied under Dr. Bill Gardner at NFCC. Partner with father in Bronze by Cooley, which does monumental sculptures. Studio located in Lamont, Fla.

  • Randy Herndon: Magna cum laude graduate of NFJC in 1971. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Citizens Bank of Perry. Herndon and his wife, Barbara, also a NFJC graduate, reside in Perry, Fla.

  • Alfonsa James: Attended NFJC on an athletic scholarship. Dean of Student Development at Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Richey, Fla. President-elect of the Florida Community College Activities Association Executive Committee. He resides in New Port Richey, Fla.

  • Ben Killingsworth: NFJC graduate in 1984. Principal of Madison County High School. He is a resident of Madison, Fla.

  • Sonny Nobles: Graduate of NFJC in 1968. Retired educator of thirty years and Mayor of Live Oak, Fla. He and his wife, the former Diane Corbin, reside in Live Oak, Fla.

  • Harry Pennington: Graduate of NFJC, AA in 1966. He is the Superintendent of Schools for Hamilton County. Pennington resides in Jennings, Fla.

  • Gary Perkins: Graduated from NFCC in 1970. Executive Director of the Florida Sheriff’s Association. Resides in Tallahassee, Fla.

  • Fain Poppell: Graduated from NFJC in 1968 . Owner of Walton F. Poppell, Inc., Land Surveyors. He and his wife, the former Linda Smith, reside in Madison, Fla.

  • Becky Robinson: Is a 1974 graduate of NFJC . Owner of Becky’s Dance Steps Studio in Madison, Fla. Robinson resides in Madison, Fla.

  • Mary Ann Sanders: Manager of the Madison Bank of America. She and husband, Tim Sanders, also a NFCC alumnus, reside in Madison, Fla.

  • VeEtta Hagan-Smith: Graduate of NFJC, Hagan Smith has been employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 24 years and is a member of the Madison County School Board. She and husband, Jimmie reside in Madison.

  • Dr. David Smith: NFJC graduate in 1976. Philip Morris Professor of crop science and tobacco extension specialist at North Carolina State University. He is the son of the late Dr. William C. Smith, Jr. and Johnnie Ruth Smith of Live Oak, Fla. He and his wife, Mary Lou, reside in Cary, NC.

  • David Thompson: Attended NFJC. Vice president of U.S. Auto Credit in Jacksonville. He and his wife, the former Karen Pendergras, reside in Jacksonville, Fla.

  • Alma Keys-Twiggs: Graduate of Suwannee River Junior College. Retired librarian and teacher of 31years and former trustee of NFCC. Madison resident.

  • Ernest Washington: Graduate of Suwannee River Junior College. Retired educator of 39 years. Currently pastors the Allen Chapel AME Church in Greenville, Fla. He and his wife, the former Carrie Aiken, reside in Greenville, Fla.
