They are business consultants, children’s advocates, a publisher, public servants and educators. They are all outstanding in their fields and all are alumni of North Florida (Junior) Community College.
The college paid tribute to twenty-six men and women selected as Outstanding Alumni April 27, 2004 during the annual Courtyard Party at the Wardlaw-Smith-Goza Conference Center in Madison, Fla.
President Morris G. Steen, Jr. said, “These are men and women who individually and collectively bring honor to our school. Their achievements are testimony to the influence of the college both near and far.”

Mark Akerman of Greensboro, N.C., earned history and education degrees from Appalachian State University, and a master’s degree from FAMU. Akerman is principal at St. Pius X in Greensboro, NC.

Dale Boatwright of Monticello, Fla., graduated from FSU and earned a certificate from the Florida School of Banking at UF. He has been the Jefferson County Clerk of the Circuit Court since 1996 and is active in the community.

Mack Harper of Tallahassee, Fla., was a basketball and track and field star at NFJC. He earned an accounting degree from FSU. Harper is a CPA with James D. Holley & Co. where he has been a partner for almost thirty years.

Clifford Johnson Clifford Johnson, NFJC graduate in 1962. Holds MS in counseling from FSU. Served as Tallahassee District Supervisor and Program Administrator of Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Florida DOE from 1984-1995. Resident of Quincy, Fla.

Emerald Kinsley of Madison, Fla., graduated from NFJC and joined the family newspaper business, Greene Publishing, Inc. She became publisher in 1999. She directed the Miss NFCC Scholarship Pageant in 2003.

Charlton Knowles of Perry, Fla., graduated from NFJC and FSU. He is a CPA and is President/CEO of Buckeye Community Federal Credit Union. He was chairman of the Perry-Taylor County Chamber of Commerce Board, president of the Perry Kiwanis Club Board of Directors and a charter member of the Perry Boys and Girls Club.

Curtis Henry Koon of Live Oak, Fla., stared as a member of NFJC’s first basketball team and graduated in 1961. He is the former owner of Koon’s Pontiac-GMC dealership in Live Oak. He is active in the St. Mathews Episcopal Church.

Debra Land of Mayo, Fla., and her husband graduated from NFJC. She has a B.S. from UF, a M.S. from Nova Southeastern. She is Director of Instructional and Personnel Services for the Lafayette School District.

Malcolm Page of Perry, Fla., was in the first class at NFJC in 1958. He earned a B.S. from FSU. A school teacher for forty years, he has also been chairman of the Tri-County Electric Board and a member of the Doctors Memorial Hospital Board.

Jim Parrish of Tallahassee, Fla., lettered two years in track and cross country sports at NFJC. He graduated from FSU and earned a master’s degree from the University of South Florida. In 1990 he established Parrish & Associates, a consulting service to local governments throughout Florida.

George Pridgeon of Greenville, Fla. graduated FSU and holds a master’s degree from Valdosta State University. He has been principal of Greenville Primary and Elementary schools for the past thirty-three years.

Clay Schnitker of Madison, Fla., graduated from NFJC, FSU and the FSU College of Law. He is a practicing attorney in Madison. He has served on the boards of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and Madison County Foundation for Excellence.

Claymore Schnitker of Madison, Fla., graduated from NFJC in 1963. He is the former President of First Union Bank in Madison. He served on the NFJC/NFCC District Board of Trustees, several years as chairman.

Abigail Jackson Taunton of Wewahitchka, Fla., founded the Taunton Family Children’s Home with her husband, David. The home was recognized as a Point of Light by President George Bush. Taunton also received the Oprah Winfrey Angel Network Use Your Life Award. Taunton owns Gulf County Realty and Taunton Truss.

John R. Weed of Perry, Fla., was the first editor of the Trailblazer and a member of NFJC’s first graduating class. He graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island and served in the Peace Corps. He earned a law degree from Samford University and practiced in Perry where he served as County Prosecutor and County Attorney.

John N. Weed of Perry, Fla., graduated from NFCC, UF and the FSU College of Law. He served with the U. S. Army (active and reserves) including a year in Iraq. He is in law practice with his father, John Robert Weed.

Ben H. Wilkinson of Tallahassee, Fla., graduated from NFJC, UF and the FSU College of Law. He was a founding partner in Pennington, Moore, Wilkinson, Bell and Dunbar law firm. He was Leon County Attorney for 1989 – 90. He is active in the Florida Bar, Tallahassee Bar and the Federal Bar Association.
