What is the Administrative Assistant Program?
The Administrative Assistant Program is designed to prepare students for work as file clerks, office clerks, secretaries, or administrative assistants. The program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in any of these occupations. What can I learn?
This program focuses on broad, transferable skills that are the foundation for success in all business environments. The coursework is designed to begin training in basic office skills and progress to more complex skill levels. There are four courses/completion points in the program: Information Technology Assistant, Front Desk Specialist, Assistant Digital Production Designer, and Administrative Assistant.
The course content will include, but is not limited to:
- Employability Skills
- Communication
- Business English
- Business Math
- Computing Fundamentals
- Productivity Software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
- The Internet for Office Professionals
- Desktop Publishing
- Keyboarding
- Machine Transcription
- Records Management / Filing
How long is the program?
1050 clock hours, or about 35 weeks
When does the next program begin?
A new Administrative Assistant Program begins each fall semester. Classes will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (30 hours per week) and will include a combination of class assignments and job internship(s). The classroom is located in Building 13, Room 158.
What if I work and can't attend Monday through Friday?
If you are currently employed in a relevant position where you practice the skills covered in the program, you might be able to count your work hours toward your requirements for class. Contact the instructor for more details.

Visit the instructor to be advised. The contact information is listed below to schedule one-on-one appointments. The advising process will take about thirty minutes.
Information sessions are scheduled so that you can meet the instructor, learn more about the program, begin enrollment, and schedule your TABE test. Feel free to drop in anytime during information session hours, you do not need an appointment and will not need to stay for the entire time scheduled.
