ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT
When does advising begin?
Academic advisement for Spring 2012 begins Nov. 1, 2011.
When does registration begin/end?
Registration for Spring 2012 classes is based on the following registration schedule:
EARLY REGISTRATION
- Nov. 14, 2011: Students with 36 or more earned semester hours
- Nov. 15, 2011: Students with 24 or more earned semester hours
- Nov. 16, 2011: Students with 12 or more earned semester hours
- Nov. 17, 2011: Currently enrolled students
- Nov. 18, 2011: Currently enrolled students
OPEN REGISTRATION
- Nov. 21, 2011: Open Registration begins (including dual enrollment students)
- Dec. 16-Jan. 2: Campus closed for Winter Break holiday
- Jan. 3, 2012: College reopens at 8 a.m.
- Jan. 9, 2012: Spring 2012 CLASSES BEGIN
- Jan. 9-Jan. 11, 2012: Late Registration (late fees apply)
- Students may add classes through Jan. 11, 2012
- Students may drop classes for refund through Jan. 13, 2012
Who should see an advisor?
All students are strongly encouraged to visit with an academic advisor prior to course registration. The following students are required to see an academic advisor prior to registration:
- All new, first time in college students
- Students required to register for College Preparatory courses
- Students with a ‘hold’ on their registration
- Dual enrollment students must see their high school counselor
- Home school students must see NFCC advisor Bobby Scott
Why is advising important?
Students are strongly encouraged to visit with an academic advisor prior to course registration for the following reasons:
ACADEMIC REVIEW: A thorough review of completed academic coursework and academic progress
CAREER GUIDANCE: Review of completed, current, and future coursework relative to academic, transfer and career goals
UP TO DATE INFORMATION: Notification of changes to course schedules, program requirements, transfer requirements, important dates and other information necessary to facilitate timely completion of academic goals
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT: Discussion of non-academic factors (work, family, etc.) and the relationship of each to academic achievement
Which advisor is best for me?
The below list will help you decide which advisor to contact.
GENERAL STUDENTS AND FIRST TIME NFCC STUDENTS: Students not included in the below categories and any new students should see Doug Brown, Mary Frances Mauldin or Bobby Scott.
CURRENT COLLEGE PREPARATORY STUDENTS: Students currently registered for two or more College Preparatory courses (Fall 2011) should see either Efrain Bonilla or Jhan Reichert.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES: Students in the Student Support Services program should see Lonnie Ford, Lynn Waller or Nancy Lillis.
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: Students with a documented disability should see Lynn Waller or Nancy Lillis.
DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS: Dual enrollment students must see their high school counselor for advisement.
HOME-SCHOOLED STUDENTS: Home-schooled students must see NFCC advisor Bobby Scott.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION: Students in Career and Technical Education programs should see:
