This course will provide a well-balanced coverage of critical small business issues. It will include real world examples to help students understand how to apply the concepts discussed in the text. This course is designed to provide the student with a working knowledge of the essential principles and concepts of management theory and practice. There will be a focus on the internet usage, including its use in marketing and financing, internet resources are invoked throughout the text.

Course Objectives

This course introduces students to basic management principles and concepts. Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to :

1.Define the major principles and concept of small business management and entrepreneurial opportunities.
2.Explain and develop a new venture business plan.
3.Explain, demonstrate and apply small business marketing strategies.
4.Explain and apply small business operations
5.Demonstrate and apply financial management for a small business organization.

Students will be expected to read chapters in advance so that they can intelligently participate in discussions. All students will be given experimental exercises, exploring the web exercises and case studies.

Evaluation

4 tests- multiple choice and essay=50% of total grade
Class Assignments=30% of total grade
New Business Venture Project=20% of total grade

Submitting Work
Late Assignments:


All assignments during the term will be given a deadline for submission to your instructor. Assignments turned in late will be deducted one letter grade for each day that it is late.

Exam Make-up:

Tests and presentations may be made up only if cleared in advance with the instructor. If you are ill or an unforeseen incident occurs on test day that will prohibit you from taking the test, you must contact the instructor before the exam. You must receive permission from the instructor in order to be allowed a make-up exam.

Academic Integrity:

Students are expected to complete their own assignments and cheating is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught cheating on an assignment or an exam will forfeit the assignment/exam with a zero and may face further consequences as outlined in the NFCC student handbook.


Special Note:

Students requiring classroom accommodations or modifications because of a documented disability should discuss this need with the instructor at the beginning of the semester.
