Course Philosophy Contact Cathy Simcox These distance learning courses were designed to accommodate you! With the realization that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for some students to attend traditional classes because of work schedules, etc., these courses put in this format to allow you to pursue your education without having to sacrifice home life or work. However, do not think that because these are not traditional classroom courses that you will have an easier time! These courses are as rigorous as any I teach in the traditional manner. In fact, distance learning courses are not for everyone! They require a little extra on the part of the student. To be successful in a distance learning course, you must be self-motivated and have the self-discipline to adhere to the course schedule without the benefit of the regimentation of a formal classroom setting. In addition, you must have basic computer skills such as using email, saving and downloading files, surfing the Internet, posting messages to a message board and using the keyboard and mouse.
As in any class setting, you are in control of your own learning. No instructor can force you to learn! But that does not mean that you are alone!! Success in these courses depends upon your dedication to your education and on our communication. While this is called “distance learning”, I am as close as the telephone or the computer. Again, you are not alone! If you have any questions or problems, please contact me. If you don’t understand some of the material or have questions or concerns over the assignments, call me! That’s what I am here for! Once you have registered for the course I will provide you with my home phone number as I recognize that many times you will be working on these courses outside of normal business hours. I want you to call when you have a question, even if it is in the evening or on a weekend! In addition, if I find that you are lagging behind in your coursework, I will contact you to get you moving! I will also check with you periodically throughout the semester just to see how you are coming along. And we will be interacting through the message boards and news postings in the course program!
I look forward to having you in class this semester! |
