Director of RN Program, Nita Fico |
Welcome to my website! Email Me This is your source of information about registered nursing and other allied health programs at North Florida Community College. This is an exciting and challenging time for colleges and universities as the nursing shortage has forced nursing educators to shift their focus to a variety of ways to educate the nurses of the future. At the same time, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing raised the passing rate for the NCLEX-RN in the interest of protecting public safety. The creation of multiple/alternate pathways for nursing education along with increasing the NCLEX passing rate has culminated in many new challenges and concerns for nursing educators. |

| One of our greatest concerns is what to tell potential students about nursing education, specifically, where do I start, how long will it take, and, what can I do when I finish? At North Florida Community College there are five different programs students can enter to prepare them for employment in a variety of health care settings. These are summarized below. |

As you map out your educational plan for the health care worker of the future, consider such things as: How long do I want to go to school? Do I want a degree or certificate? Do I want to go to school full-time or part-time? Do I have the pre-requisites, test scores or other requirements met for the program I have selected to attend? Are there other issues I need to address ahead of time to ensure my success in the program I have selected? Are there waiting lists for my selected program? Are there other programs/courses I can take while I am waiting?
Education for health care workers and nursing is designed so that students can enter at almost any level and exit at that level and work or move on to the next level and continue their education. This creates flexibility for the student who needs to work while they are in school, go to classes part-time, etc. I would encourage you to call and ask for more information on the program that you may be interested in. The exciting part is that you can get started in your health career right here at North Florida Community College. Good luck future healthcare workers! |
