The mission of the North Florida Community College Department of History and Social Sciences is to educate students in the academic areas of History, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, Human Development, Education, Geography, Political Science, Law Studies, and Public Relations and to create a curiosity for further learning in these disciplines.
One goal of this Department is to enable students to become informed and motivated citizens who will make positive contributions to our society. Another goal is to broaden the students’ horizons and prepare them for upper division programs---a vital element of any liberal education. The Department will accomplish these goals by emphasizing the development of good writing, oral communication, research, technology, and critical thinking skills in all courses. Finally, the Department of History and Social Sciences will continually strive to maintain strong academic standards while sustaining a caring and compassionate attitude toward students.
