Mission Statement
The NFCC Mathematics Dept. offers a variety of courses and services to the NFCC community. These include, but are not limited to:

1. Providing students who are not prepared for college level math courses the opportunity to improve their basic math skills (i.e., number sense, operations of arithmetic, elementary algebra).

2. Providing students in the vocational/technical areas the necessary math skills to function in their field of study.

3. Providing students who attend a four-year institution the mathematics necessary to excel in the area of their major field of study.

4. Developing problem solving and analytical skills.

5. Developing logical reasoning skills.

6. Developing mathematical communication skills/ using correct math language and symbols.

7. Developing self-discipline and mathematical study skills.

Assessment and Measurement of Expected Learning Outcomes:

Student progress in NFCC math is documented in a variety of ways: in-class instructor evaluation, including graded homework, in-class tests, and portfolios. Standardized tests, such as the Florida Basic Skills Math Exit Test and the CLAST are given at the appropriate times during a student's matriculation.
In the AA Degree, progress is tracked in the required six hours of Gordon Rule math courses. In the AS and AAS, math progress is evaluated by success in thier various programs and on required licensing tests.
