Introduction to Astronomy

If you’re a star gazer, you’ll not want to miss out on the new courses offered during Fall Term at NFCC. Introduction to Astronomy is being taught by NFCC Instructor Dr. Tony DeLia. The three-credit course may be taken for college credit or audited.
Two developments make the course even more inviting. First, classes will be held in the newly completed $4.8 million Science Complex at NFCC. Some class meetings may be held locally in a 60 person planetarium. Second, students will be gazing at the heavens through an Obsession 25” f/5 telescope, ”The biggest mobile telescope available to the public in the region,” said DeLia. “You can’t get much better than that.”
Students can expect to see some spectacular views, according to DeLia. “You will feel like you could zoom inside the craters and canyons of the moon or float among the glowing clouds of the Orion nebula,” he said. Students may also take their own “astro” photos through special cameras for broadcast into the classroom.
