High growth careers are in areas that require occupational certificates, associate in science or associate in applied science degrees.
In today's world you need the best technology and training you can get to compete successfully. NFCC delivers classroom instruction and hands-on training that prepare you for highly desirable jobs in today's ever changing marketplace. Listed below are programs available through the Career and Technical Education Division of the College. A full-time program designed to prepare students for work as file clerks, office clerks, secretaries or administrative assistants. Students completing the Administrative Assistant certificate program may continue into the Associate in Applied Science degree program in Office Systems Technology. The Adult Education Program offers free GED preparation classes as well as literacy education in the basic skills of reading, writing, and math. Vocational Prepatory Instruction classes are also available to provide remediaiton for the test of Adult Basic Education. There is open entry to these programs and class times are flexible.
NFCC and Jefferson County School District are offering a two-part vocational certificate course. On-the-job training will be an integral part of this program. Students will participate in service-learning community projects as well as internships. The program focuses on Building Construction skills and issues.
Certificate and A.A.S. degree available. The programs prepare students for entry-level positions in the computer and networking professions and for industry certification examinations. Continuing Workforce Education is instruction that does not result in a technical certificate, diploma, associate in applied science, or associate in science degree.
Both architectural drafting and mechanical drafting tracks require 63 credit hours or 1900 clock hours for completion for a certificate in each area. Students may choose to seek an Associate in Applied Science degree in Drafting and Design Technology. The programs prepare students for initial employment as drafters or to provide supplemental training for those employed in these occupations. NFCC offers certificate programs and the Associate in Applied Science degree in this field to prepare students for entry into careers in education and childcare. Education paraprofessionals serving as aides and assistants may complete the degree to satisfy requirements associated with the career. First-phase training for emergency medical technicians. Eleven hour college credit program required in preparation for state certification. Successful graduates may apply to take the State Registry Exam for EMT. For information contact Allied Health at 850/973-1673 or click on the email link to the left. This program is designed to prepare students for employment as a General Office Clerk, Clerical Support, Administrative Support and Legal Secretary and to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in any of these occupations. A college certificate program that provides training for the entry-level paramedic and enables students to apply to take the state examination for licensure. This program is part of the Allied Health Department located in the Technical Center, Bldg. 13, lower level.
The program is designed to prepare a person for a career as a Patient Care Technician, under the supervision of a registered nurse. The program also provides supplemental training for someone employed as a nursing assistant. The progrm is four months in duration. A full-time program requiring 1350 clock or 45 credit hours that prepares students for careers in the health field. Graduates of the program are eligible to make application for the state exam administered by the Florida State Board of Nursing. Practical Nursing and other Allied Health programs are located in the lower level of the Technical Center, Bldg. #13.
NFCC is approved by the Fla. Dept. of Law Enforcement to train recruits and certified officers in law enforcement and corrections. The NFCC Academy offers basic recruit, auxiliary officer training and re-certification programs, as well as continuing education programs. Other options are the Combination Law Enforcement/Corrections Academy and the Crossover units. Certificate, A.S. and A.A.S. degree options are available. North Florida Community College has provisional approval from the Florida State Board of Nursing to offer the Associate in Science Degree for Registered Nursing. This two year (six semester) program will prepare the graduate to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Achievement of a passing score on this exam and licensure by the Florida State Board of Nursing will enable the graduate to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida. Tech Prep College level technical courses are available to high school students in the 6-county area who plan to pursue a Career and Technical Education certificate or a college degree at NFCC. Students must maintain a B average in class and pass acollege-level exit exam with a C or better in order to qualify for credit. Students are urged to see their counselor for more details or call the Tech Prep Coordinator at (850)973-5022.
