General Information |
North Florida Community College permits students to enter training, in most programs, at any time during the calendar year on a space available basis. Students attending day or evening classes have the opportunity to work with the latest equipment in modern shops, laboratories and classrooms on campus. Short courses and special occupational programs are also offered off campus. Before Certificates of Achievement are awarded to postsecondary vocational students, they must successfully meet state requirements for levels of Adult Education in the areas of reading, math, language and program competency requirements.

Purpose |
The purpose of Career and Technical Education Programs at North Florida Community College is to provide specialized training needed by employees in today’s industrial, business and service organizations. Occupational Education Programs are organized to provide intensive and practical courses to enable students to enter certain careers or improve the skills of those already employed.

Admissions |
Applicants seeking admission to the Occupational Program must be any one of the following:
1. At least 16 years of age and no longer in school.
2. A high school student at least 16 years of age whose principal recommends that the North Florida Community College Occupational program can best meet the student’s need.
3. A high school graduate.

Enrollment Requirements |
1. Students who are enrolled in a post-secondary vocational certificate program shall complete a basic skills examination within the first six (6) weeks after admission into the program. 2. Students deemed to lack the required minimal level of basic skills as measured by TABE scores are required to remove the deficiencies through completion of Vocational Preparatory Studies. 3. After a student completes the remediation prescribed for basic skills deficiencies, the student shall be retested using an alternative form (if possible) of the same examination used for initial testing. No student shall be awarded a vocational certificate until the student achieves the minimum level of basic skills required for this program by the Department of Education.
TABE scores that are required for each program are:
Administrative Assistant: Reading, Math & Language: 10 on each part; Corrections: Reading, Math & Language - 10 on each part; Law Enforcement: Reading & Language 11; Math 10 Combination Academy: Reading & Language 11; Math 10 Drafting: Reading & Language 9; Math 10 EMT: Reading, Math & Language - 10 on each part Licensed Practical Nursing: Reading, Math, Language & Spelling - 11 each part Patient Care Assistant: Reading & Language 8; Math 7
Students who possess an Associate in Arts Degree, or higher, who have completed the college level communication and computation skills examination (CLAST) pursuant to Section 240.107, Florida Statute, or who have met the minimum cut scores on any test listed in Rule 6A-10.0315, F.A.C., may be exempted from the provision of subsection (1) of this rule. The designated program administrator must receive an official copy of the degree, transcript or test score.

Admission Procedures |
Admission Procedures Inquiries and pre-enrollment applications are encouraged throughout the year. An “open” enrollment policy is followed in most programs to enable students to enroll at any time during the school year. Occupational Programs are approved for veterans’ enrollment.
1. APPLICATION: Complete an application for admission from the Technical Center. The application should be submitted as early as possible before the term in which the applicant plans to enroll. A $20 non-refundable (unless admission is denied) application service fee must accompany the first application for admission as a full-time student.
2. TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education): All students enrolled in an occupational program of over 450 clock hours must be tested.
3. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: North Florida Community College is an area vocational school for Madison, Jefferson and Lafayette Counties. High school students may attend certain designated occupational programs, on a space available basis, for occupational instruction that is not available at individual high schools. High school students may be admitted for three hours per day, five days a week, upon approval of their high school principal and the Director of Vocational Education.
Some programs have additional requirements for admission. Any special requirements are listed under the specific program.

Graduation |
Upon successful program completion, the student will be awarded a certificate. The specific requirements for the certificates are given in the descriptions of the individual programs.
Upon program completion, students are expected to participate in graduation exercises. A graduation fee of $30 is charged. This fee must be paid on or before the date listed in the Occupational Schedule of courses for a student to be considered for graduation.
